Werewolf Cupcake from Hello, Cupcake!

Happy Halloween Everybody!

I just wanted to quickly share how much I love this book, Hello, Cupcake! by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson.

It has all these super-easy ideas to make all kinds of beautiful intricately-decorated cupcakes, using just candy. The one I made has a fruit-by-the-foot for the mouth, a couple of m&m’s for the eyes and a jellybean for the nose. You don’t have to have any special frosting tips or anything!

The werewolf got rave reviews…but I can tell you that the ones from the book look 100% better than mine! I should have gone with a stiffer icing (like Swiss meringue buttercream), I used Hershey’s “Perfectly Dark” chocolate buttercream. The book detailed a method of the “fur technique” using a regular ziplock bag as a pastry bag. They even used two-toned frosting on theirs.

Hello Cupcake!

The one problem I had was that the original design calls for using marshmallows for the snout, but marshamallows aren’t vegetarian. They contain gelatin. So I replaced the ‘mallow with a mini cupcake that I sculpted to be “howling.” I think the teeth look pretty jacked up on mine. It’s mouth kind of looks like the Sarlacc Pit.

Maybe if you made them in red baking cups, they would look like the werewolf Michael Jackson in the Thriller video, remember?

I hope everyone has a safe and spooktacular Halloween!

EDIT: If anyone is interested, I was Jessica Rabbit for Halloween and Josh was a mime!

    What up, y’all!

I was one of the lucky recipients of those wolf cupcakes, and don’t listen to your Cupcake Mistress, they looked and tasted AWESOME!!!

Also Aubs, I just had a cool idea for some cupcakes, and I believe you could make them look RIDICULOUS awesome: heartbreak cupcakes. Sadcakes, but cool-lookin’ ones, methinks.

Hmm… maybe a liquour based cake…. chocolate or red velvet? Done in the shape of hearts, with red icing up top, and perhaps the crack in the heart filled in with chocolate icing?

    That’s jus’ me here thinkin,
    Now you’s go gets a’cookin!
